What is difference between validation and verification?

Reviewing the test document to find bug in the application 
without excecuting the test cases come under verification.

where as trying to to check the functionality of application 
according to requirement by executing the 
test cases called as verification.

Correct me if i am wrong.

Verification is related to testcase review but validation is related to testcase execution.
