What is difference between varchar and varchar2 ?

VARCHAR store up to 2000 bytes of characters while VCHAR2 store up to 4000. If we declare datatype as VARCHAR then it will take space for NULL values, but VARCHAR2 datatype it will not take space.

Suppose you have taken database field like this
username varchar(10)
in this case whatever name you will enter it will take 10 byte space only.
While if your database field is like this
username varchar2(10)
It depends on the variable you are going to enter.
If the username is of length 6 it will take 6 byte space not 10 byte.
